Texas Child-Support Estimator

Texas sets guideline child support as a percentage of the paying parent’s net monthly resources. This gives you an estimate. It is a starting point only: the real number is affected by health-insurance costs, children in other households, and the facts of your case.

“Net resources” means income from nearly all sources minus taxes, union dues, and the cost of the child’s health and dental insurance.1 Texas applies the guideline percentage, 20 percent of monthly net resources for one child and rising with each additional child, to net resources up to a cap, which is $11,700 per month effective September 1, 2025;2 amounts above the cap are handled case by case.3 Children you support in other households lower the percentage.4
